Popular lubricants, liquids, and grease for the Polaris RZR, RS1, and ACE

Jan 3rd 2022

We’ve all heard the term lubricants thrown around a lot in the off-road community. Every grease monkey and mechanic always has something to say about lubing up some part or another, right? But what about us garage mechanics? The do-it-yourself-ers that like to take matters into our own hands? Knowing what you’re doing when it comes to the various lubricants, liquids and grease for the Polaris RZR, RS1 and ACE can be easier said than done.

Thankfully for you, that stops today!

Lubricants - What do you really need?

Polaris ACE Oil Leak

The most obvious lubricant most can think of needing for their side-by-side is engine oil. After all, the engine is the heart of the Polaris RZR, RS1 and ACE. Without engine oil, you’re quite literally going nowhere. Fast.

Swapping engine oil is fairly straightforward in most UTV’s, and the Polaris family is no exception to that statement.

With Polaris RZR Oil Change Kits readily available, your oil change process goes from intimidating, to so simple even your kids could do it. As long as you have a good Polaris RZR tool kit waiting in your garage, you’ll have the oil swap done in no time. These kits also even come with the proper oil filter for your machine, and full synthetic oil taking the guesswork out of the situation so you can get on with your day.

Aside from changing your oil, a not so obvious yet just as vital part requiring lubrication exists: your Polaris RZR Cam Chain.

While the cam chain itself doesn’t need replacing as often as your engine oil, keeping the chain lubricated needs to be high on your priority list. Polaris RZR Chain lubes usually come in a spray can for easy application. Spraying on a coat and ensuring proper coverage over the entire cam chain takes mere moments, and prevents a world of headaches in the future. A proper chain lube prevents corrosion, reduces friction as well as wear and tear, and prevents dirt and debris from being stuck to the chain.

This in turn prolongs the lifetime of your cam chain, ensuring that the likelihood of one failing and leaving you stranded in a remote area is much lower than it would be otherwise.

Grease lightning!

Even though the hair product that John Travolta used in Grease may very well be a lubricant of its own, it surely isn’t what you should be using to prevent friction and corrosion on the various joints and moving parts of your Polaris side-by-side.

When used properly, greased parts and joints become friction, water and corrosion resistant. Wheel bearings are one such area that can benefit greatly from a premium grease product . Just remember that to properly apply grease to the wheel bearings, you may be in need of a proper Polaris RZR Wheel Bearing Grease Tool.

If you think about it, your wheel bearings go through more than their fair share of wear and tear. Keeping them greased means making sure they last as long as possible, while performing at their peak.

Whatever the case, there seems to be a grease or lubricant for just about anything on your Polaris RZR, RS1 or ACE.

Lubricants, Greases and Liquids… Oh, My!

Transmission Fluid Leak

Now that we’ve gone over some of the essentials for lubricants and grease, we really should cover some of the lesser known or talked about fluids for your Side-By-Side.

Polaris RZR Radiators are a well known part of these off-road vehicles at this point. We all know they take coolant and use it to keep the engine at optimal temperatures for operation. But, as life tends to happen, sometimes leaks happen.

As disastrous as having a coolant leak can be, not having extra coolant on hand to temporarily re-fill the reservoir until you can repair it properly can be more disastrous than you think. If your engine fully overheats, not only will you be stranded wherever you happened to be at that moment, but you could actually end up seriously damaging the engine.

We’ve all heard the horror stories of someone’s vehicle overheating and blowing a head gasket, right? We certainly don’t want anything of the sort happening to our beloved Polaris UTV! Make sure you keep a bottle of radiator coolant around for just such an occasion. Things like a Polaris RZR Radiator Coolant Additive also exist, to help cool the engine even more efficiently than the stock radiator coolant could ever hope to.

All in all, with everything life can throw at your Polaris RZR, RS1 or ACE, it looks like your best bet is to always have a few extra fluids on hand at all times. We've made that pretty easy here at Everything Polaris RZR, so take a look and be prepared!
