Nobody gets a Polaris Razor RS1 expecting to keep it immaculately clean after every ride. But there’s a difference between a little mud splatter and coming home after every ride looking like bigfoot. Which is why most riders like to keep dry using standard fender flares, aftermarket fender extensions, or a combination of the two. Without fenders, running through the smallest of puddles or light pieces of mud would throw muck all over the sides of the machine, and more importantly, in the cab and on the driver. Even with door cutouts, it's crazy how much mud gets tossed in the cab. If you ride in the mud, fender flares are a must-have RS1 accessory!
But you might be asking yourself, are those cheap a$$ Polaris fender flares my only option? True they are cheap looking, cover the factory decals, and are flimsy to say the least. Many riders don’t even like the look of their RS1 with Polaris fenders installed. Plus, they are damn near tear off with the weight of all the caked-on mud, sagging and bouncing around as you ride. So before you go painting the OEM fenders, adding support brackets, and drilling holes in your RS1 plastics, there are some aftermarket fender flare options out there for the RS1.
Mudbusters, for example, are a popular fender add-on for the RS1. They are very smooth and slick on the bottom side to help mud fall off, and you can still see the tires with the Mud Busters installed. Many RS1 owners think that they’re better looking than the Polaris brand fenders, and they’re undeniably strong and flexible. Knick a tree, no problem. Ride too close to a fence pole, no big deal. Even if you have the XL Polaris factory fenders, Mud Busters makes a great add-on that augments, rather than replaces the Polaris XL fender. They have slotted holes exactly where you need and it’s obvious that they made them fit perfectly. Some riders added a small bead of silicone between flare and bike to prevent small pebbles from getting wedged in there. The install is easy as well, requiring only a 5/16 drill bit and torx bit to remove two screws. Pull the push pins on the fenders once they are installed to remove the panels and that’s about it, should take you 20 minutes max. So if you’re tired of eating mud when you turn it on in the slop and are looking to keep mud out of your lap, fender flares are the way to go!
