Welcome to Polaris RZR Self-Rescue Training: Mud Edition

If you’ve been riding for a few years or more, you know the deal. You remember that one time you got all excited that springtime came, fired up the Polaris RZR, and charged blindly ahead without taking the necessary precautions against getting stuck in the mud. One embarrassing phone call and at least an hour later, you were back at home licking your wounds. Well, not this year, darn it, because Everything Polaris RZR is here to hook you up with the tips and gear you need to rescue yourself from the mud. Read on for a quick breakdown of winch-based and non-winch-based mud rescue strategies. 

No Winch? Try This

You’re laughing, your passengers are white knuckling, and it’s a beautiful spring day. But you just couldn’t help yourself. You gave in to the succubus call of that mud puddle, and found out it was more of a mud crater. Before you panic because you don’t have a winch, you may still be able to get yourself out of this jam. Here’s how:

The Stick Trick

You need a solid plank of wood or any other flat, firm object to make this work. Tie it to your tire, and it just may give you the traction boost you need to scoot yourself out of that muddy or sandy mess.

Nothing Fancy (Shovel Time)

You probably get the gist already. If a stick won’t work and/or the below methods aren’t helping either, then get yourself a shovel and literally dig yourself out of that mess. Clearing your tires is of course priority one, which may help you to power on out of there before you have to shovel it all. 

Rock and Roll

This method is more effective when you have at least one person helping you. Rock your UTV back and forth as much as possible, giving a little bit of gas at the end of each push, but making sure not to simply spin out and dig yourself in more.

Shift Your Cargo

Finally, just redistributing your Polaris RZR’s content to offload weight from the front end may be enough to get the traction you need and get out of there. 

With a Winch, It’s a Cinch

Of course, the best case scenario is to have a winch.
